What's new in Makagiga 5.0.0 - screenshots

It seems that it took me almost 2 months to write this post ;-)

User Interface

Updated Metal look and feel (it's called "Modern Metal" in Makagiga). Hopefully, version 5.1 will bring more tweaks.


New (experimental) syntax highlighting in Notepad editor (see Tool Bar or Menu Bar|View). The old Syntax Highlighting plugin is no longer supported in Makagiga 5.x. Makagiga plugins such as Markdown Preview will provide more syntax highlighters for various markup languages...


Search results in table views are now highlighted.

Preview in RSS Filters window:

Color Choosers

  • Added "Retro" color palette
  • Added black and white colors to the default "Oxygen" color palette
  • Show "Current" color in dialog window
  • Added History menu (recently selected colors):


Built-in script editor brings new output/error console, configurable font, and JavaScript syntax highlighting by default.

Mathematical Formulas Preview plugin

Finally, a new plugin is available! :)

Mathematical Formulas Preview plugin allows you to quickly create and view mathematical formulas written in LaTeX. It uses JLaTeXMath library to render images. Install it via menu Tools -> Plugins -> Get More Plugins (requires Makagiga 5.x).



  • Configurable background/text color
  • Configurable image size
  • Saving as PNG image (click menu near the green "Refresh" button)
  • Syntax highlighting (currently limited to comments only...)

User Interface

  • NEW: Now you can use Ctrl+Mouse Wheel to zoom in/out in all tabs (like in web browsers)
  • New default colors, bug-fixes, and minor tweaks

NEW: AES-128 file encryption (password protection). NOTE: To decrypt such file you need Java 8 and Makagiga 5.x. You can still select an older encryption algorithm for compatibility with Java 7/Makagiga 4.x.
